Key to the development of the DDS growth strategy is the creation of sustainable interdisciplinary partnerships with academic institutions and industry at international, national and local levels. This has been achieved through strategic partnerships with QinetiQ (formerly DERA), Arup Acoustics, Leica, Enterprise plc, Picsel Technologies, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, local government and local businesses. In addition, networks have grown through EU funded projects to develop research partnerships in Italy, Spain, Germany and Poland.
The DDS has been successful in securing research funding from SHEFC, EPSRC, AHRC, NESTA, and the EU. In addition the DDS has completed a Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept (PoC) and a Knowledge Transfer Partnership. It was successful in winning an RCUK Academic Fellowship in 2006.
